Job Title:  Senior Analyst
EMA Employee Since:  July 1994
Testimonial Topic:  Impacting the future of technology at EMA

"Then the focus was on the day-to-day, now it's all about investing in the future…about long-term results," Tim said, explaining why he chose to leave a successful career in Journalism to become a Senior Analyst supporting DoD and DoJ projects and programs at EMA.

Building on a solid understanding of the defense industry gained through years of reporting on defense issues, and even serving as a consultant for CBS's 60 Minutes and special assistant for ABC's 20/20, Tim decided to channel his efforts in a new direction, starting with the completion of his MBA in Technology Management and International Business.

"To me, the biggest difference is that now instead of just reporting on the news, I get to be a part of it…to play a definitive role in the development of cutting-edge technology that changes peoples' lives for the better."

One such project is the Voice Response Translator, a device developed by Integrated Wave Technologies, Inc. in partnership with EMA through a National Institute of Justice grant. This pocket-sized device, which is currently in the advanced testing stages, is capable of translating select phrases from one language into as many as 40 others, thus enabling police officers to communicate with non-English speaking citizens.

"When people realize what this product can do for them, they're amazed," Tim said. "It's so exciting to have been an integral part of something that will make a real difference for so many people."
